OMG, that happened to me in Montenegro when I was 13. I was over my uncle's house and they had a Britney Spears video on, so I was like, hey can I watch something else? They gave me the remote and I start flipping through the channels and the "eww" channels came on, every channel had the same "eww" program. The same exact one! I couldn't find Britney Spears anymore lmao, and my mother was yelling at me because, just like in your case, the remote decided not to work. I blame the Shaitan!
